Google Earth brings faith into view

Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:8-24)So there you are, with that fancy master’s degree in religious studies, and someone asks you where the heck Zarephath is. Well, now you can show them, thanks to Google and Dale Witte. Dale is an educator and choir director in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He’s created a Web site for catechists and teachers called “Using Google Earth in Religion Class.”

The site includes links for biblical geography, ideas for tracing Paul’s missionary journeys, links to all the countries of Pentecost worshipers in Acts 2, and much more. My favorite is a link to a 3-D model of Herod’s temple that you can rotate on-screen. You have to see it to appreciate it. Click here to see for yourself.

And if you want to see a satellite view of Zarephath, click here.
