Not every priest will be equally adept at this task but for those who like to write, are good at it and can sustain the blogging habit, blogging should be encouraged. It's a great way to stay in touch, invite people into deeper participation in their parish and spiritual life, and improve communication on important elements of parish life and faith. This may be most helpful for seniors and "shut ins" who increasingly rely on the web for a sense of community as well as information.

Michael Hyatt lists five reasons CEOs should blog. Do you think these would apply to pastors and pastoral leaders as well?

Raise your organization’s visibility.

Articulate your organization’s vision.

Network with people who can help you.

Be alert to what your constituents are saying.

Mentor the next generation of leaders.
